Leslie Ravenell

Area VIII Vice President, Leslie Ravenell

Leslie began her civil service career in 1976 with the Department of Defense (Air Force) at Hahn Air Base, Germany when she became the Child Development Center Director there. She continued as a child development specialist for the Air Force serving 15 years at Hahn, then on to 3rd Air Force HQs, Mildenhall, England, then back to HQs USAFE, Ramstein, Germany, onto Edwards AFB, CA and her final 10 years were spent working at Bolling AFB, Washington, DC. She retired from federal service on 3 Jan 2008. Just ten days later she joined Chapter 595 in Colonial Beach in Jan 2008 and in Dec 2008 she became the Vice President of Chapter 595. Even though she has only been with NARFE for a short time, serving in leadership positions with organizations is not new to her.

For 15 years she served on the Board of the Association for Young Children Europe. She not only served as Vice President and President of the organization but also participated in several leadership meetings in Washington, DC where visits were made on the “Hill” to meet with Congressional Representatives to advocate for early childhood legislation, just as NARFE does for our retirement issues. In 2001 she married her husband, Richard, who also is a member of NARFE. He spent 23 years in the Air Force on active duty and then 23 years as a civil servant for the Air Force.
