Wilma Grant joined NARFE 3 years before retiring from the U.S. Supreme Court as Manager, Publications Dept./Office of Information Technology, in 2014. Her career began as a ladies hairdresser/beautician in Scotland, then she served 3 years at HQ Royal Air Force, UK, handling RAF & NATO Communications and Printing. In 1963, she married a GI, Ted, who later worked for the House of Representatives. Wilma earned U.S. citizenship stateside. She has 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren who are her inspiration.
Wilma served 17 years in Commercial Book & Job Printing including the Newspaper Publishing industry, before joining the Supreme Court in 1980. For 34 years, she served all 9 Justices, plus several retired Justices and their staff, incl.: 3 Chief Justices - Warren Burger, William Rehnquist, and John Roberts, Jr., plus Associate Justice John P. Stevens who served as Acting Chief Justice after the passing of C.J. Rehnquist. She directed proofreading/ editing and publishing of U.S. Reports, the opinion pamphlets plus the leather-bound law volumes of Court opinions, orders, Journal of the Court, plus all other specialty and in-plant graphics and printing, Print-on-Demand, web data conversion/electronic product delivery via Hermes and web telecommunications. She has extensive graphics, printing and systems technical experience and has also served as systems manager/administrator and helpdesk manager. She earned an MBA degree from George Mason University in 1995 (sponsorship by Justice Sandra Day O’Connor), and studied International Political Economy, Technology and Industry at the University of Oxford, UK and then headed to Paris, Luxembourg, Belgium and Holland with her classmates visiting with executives and touring companies there.
