Kathy Arpa was re-elected Area X Vice President at the Area X Caucus Meeting at the 2011 VFC Convention in Richmond, Virginia. Area X, located in Northern Virginia, consists of seven chapters: Chapter 7-Arlington, Chapter 489-McLean-Great Falls, Chapter 737-Fairfax, Chapter 1116-Vienna-Oakton, Chapter 1133-Loudoun, Chapter 1241-Dulles and Chapter 1665- Metro Area of Northern Virginia. The majority of Area X members live in Congressional Districts 8, 10 and 11 with three Congressional District Liaisons (CDL), Rita Jensen-CD8, Bill Schmidt- CD10-and Mary Lou Vroman-CD-11, serving these areas.

Kathy served as Co-chair of the 2009 VFC Convention which was held in Reston, Virginia. Kathy is a member of the VFC By-Laws Committee and served as co-chair of the Northern Virginia Caucus of Chapters for two years.

Kathy attended the 2008 NARFE National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, the 2010 NARFE National Convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the 2009 and 2011 National Legislative Training held in Arlington, Virginia. She represented Region X on the Membership Committee at the 2010 National Convention in Grand Rapids. She also participated in the Region X Conference held in Corbin, Kentucky in August 2011.

In May 2011, Kathy received the Outstanding Senior Adult Award from the County of Fairfax, Virginia and Neighborhood and Community Services for her service to the community and NARFE Chapter 1116. She has served as Vice President and/or President of Chapter 1116 (Vienna-Oakton) for more than four years during which time the chapter celebrated its 40th anniversary. In her chapter, Kathy currently serves as 1st Vice President, Program Chair and Newsletter Publisher. In her community, Kathy has been on the Board of Directors of the Dunn Loring Woods Civic Association (DLWCA) in Vienna for seven years and serves as co-editor of their newsletter. She served as the chair of the 2011 DLWCA Scholarship Committee. She is also a member of AARP Chapter 754 in Vienna and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary, American Legion Post 180, Vienna, VA.

Kathy is a member of the Federal Triangle Chapter of Federally Employed Women (FEW) and served as Vice President and President of the Chapter. She has been a member of FEW since 1994.

Kathy retired from the Federal Government in 2004 and resides in Vienna, VA with her husband, Mark.

Kathy’s goals for Area X are to continue to encourage members to take advantage of electronic media and sign up for GEMS messages and encourage chapters to post their newsletter on the VFC website.
