My entire thirty-one year career was with the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. My first position was a Field Economist with the New York Regional office. I spent five years travelling east coast cities to collect primary data for the Consumer Price Index. When the Philadelphia Regional Office opened, I transferred and devoted the next two years to Wage and Compensation surveys. In 1970, I accepted a supervisory position in Washington to oversee the current regional collection effort and assist in planning the field work connected with the upcoming revision of the CPI. I retired as Division Chief in the Office of Field Operations in charge of the planning, budgeting, training and scheduling of data collection for all Price Programs: Consumer, Producer, and International.
I joined NARFE when I retired in 1994, attended meetings for a couple of years, then drifted away to volunteer with other organizations and to pursue genealogy research. Six years ago I was recruited for a two year term as Membership Chair and for the past three plus years I’ve served as President of Alexandria Chapter 232. I approach this new office with some trepidation but in hope that together we can strengthen and expand the organization.
The chapters of Northern Virginia have set up a "NARFE Blood Pool" with INOVA hospital system. If enough Northern Virginia members donated blood to it, our members would have access to FREE blood for such needs as surgery. When you give blood, you can have it credit to the NARFE pool by telling them you are with "Pool Number 7016 - NARFE".
