My Civil Service career began in Augusta, Georgia in 1971 when I was hired as an Air Traffic Controller for the Federal Aviation Administration. After a few years I moved to Atlanta and then to Chattanooga, Tennessee where I retired as an air traffic supervisor in 2003. During my career I was an on the job training instructor for many newly hired controllers, served on several committees concerning air traffic procedures, and as an additional duty was an EEO complaints investigator for the Office of Civil Rights.
Having grown up in Washington, D.C. and Long Island, N.Y. it was an easy decision to move east to Virginia to be closer to my two daughters and five grandchildren who live in northern N.J. and Norfolk, VA.
My first information about NARFE came in the mail a few months after my retirement. I immediately joined the Chattanooga chapter and eventually became the newsletter editor. After moving to Virginia I transferred to Williamsburg chapter 685 where I have served as secretary, newsletter editor, president and currently as treasurer. In the VFC I have been on the by-laws, resolutions and election committees. I have attended the national conventions since joining NARFE and served on the membership committee for the 2014 convention in Orlando.
I volunteer as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children and serve as president of my local homeowners’ association. Through my church I participate in preparing meals and providing shelter for the homeless and sing in the choir. During tax season I am a volunteer tax preparer for VITA. In my spare time I enjoy travel, going to shows, swimming, and playing tennis.
