CONFERENCE ATTENDEES

THE VIRGINIA DELEGATION TO THE CONFERENCE

2007 National Legislative Training Conference.

47 Virginians attended this year’s conference in Bethesda, Md. A record number for a NARFE event of this type. Congressional District Liaisons (CDL’s) were our new feature at the conference. Virginia has 15 CDL’s – two each for the 1st , 4th, and 10th House districts, one each for the other eight districts, and one for the two Senators. Nine of the eleven districts were represented at the Conference, and only one District, the 2nd, was not visited on March 6, when conferees went up to the Hill to lobby.

The conference organization followed the usual pattern - two days of training on issues, plus relevant talks by outside speakers at lunch on Sunday and Monday. That was followed by a day on Capitol Hill lobbying House and Senate offices. The conference highlight came on its concluding day, when Virginia Senators John Warner and Jim Webb jointly introduced S. 773, the Senate’s Premium Conversion bill.
