| ALZHEIMERS RESEARCH
UPDATE
2010 has been a busy year for Chapter 1270, especially when
it comes to fundraising for Alzheimer's research. The chapter's
annual goal to raise $10,000 for the cause was exceeded
by nearly $500! Congratulations to Chapter 1270, the community
that it serves, and to Felice Pearl for her exceptional
leadership as the chapter's Alzheimer's Research Fundraising
Chairwoman. Her energy and enthusiasm was critical in achieving
and exceeding the chapter's goal. As you can see in this
picture, Felice gladly accepted the fundraising check for
$10,438 from Chapter 1270 President Gaston Gianni and Virginia
Federation of Chapters, Area IX Vice President Pierce Johnson
at the annual Holiday Party on December 16, 2010. |

ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY
On December 16,
41 members and guests braved a fast moving snow storm to
attend the chapter's Annual Holiday Party and December meeting.
Festive German Oom-pah and Christmas-classics music was
enthusiastically provided by the Kings Park German Band,
despite the fact that the weather outside was frightful!
Following lunch and the entertainment, out-going President
Gaston Gianni conducted a short business meeting, swearing
in the 2011-2012 chapter officers and presenting Ray Humenic
with the President's Award for Outstanding Service for his
dedication as the Editor and Chief of the chapter's newsletter,
"The Woodbridge Word". President Gianni, also,
took the opportunity to thank chapter members for their
support during his tenure, and, especially, for their support
for raising funds for Alzheimer's research. He thanked all
of those in attendance for braving the weather and for bringing
clothing and sundries to help the homeless at the Hilda
Barg Homeless Shelter in Woodbridge. The board had previously
decided to forgo its annual member-to-member gift exchange
and donate instead to the homeless at the shelter. Following
the meeting, Joyce Pieritz, 2011 President, Jim Little,
2011 Vice President, and Brinda Walker took several boxes
and bags full of donated clothing, sundries, and prepared
food to the shelter to help brighten the Holiday Season
for the volunteers and residents . Enjoy some of the pictures
of the event!

HEALTH PLAN WORKSHOP
Deciding which health plan best suits your and your family's
needs can be complicated, so 11th District Congressman Gerry
Connolly sponsored a Health Plan Workshop in early December
to help educate Federal employees and retirees. NARFE was
well represented, as shown in the photo on the left. From

Federation of Chapters President Bill Sackelford and his wife
Donna Sackelford from the Springfield Chapter, and Vienna
